Privacy & data at signup

This page explains what sieve collects when you create an account, why we collect it, and what happens to it when you delete your account.

What we collect when you sign up

  • Name and email address. From your Google profile if you sign in with Google, or from the signup form if you register with email and password.
  • IP address and approximate location. Recorded once, at signup, from the connection you register over. The location is city-level at best — never a precise position — and is used for security and abuse prevention: spotting fraudulent signups and keeping the free tier usable for everyone.

How location is derived

The lookup happens on sieve's own servers against a local copy of a public geolocation database — your IP address is not sent to any third-party lookup service.

Where it lives, and for how long

Signup details are stored with your account record and used only for the purposes above — we don't sell them or use them for advertising. When you delete your account, your login is removed and your name, email, IP address, and location are deleted from the account record.
